Letter from the SG

Greetings dearest of MUN'ers,
My name is Yusuf Karadas. I am a student at Gazi University Faculty of Law. I will be acting as the Secretary General of BUMUN '16. Amongst the many previous conferences that I've either attended or organised, BUMUN holds great importance seeing as I have great sympathy towards the city Bursa. Also, it will be an opportunity for me to work with an amazing hard working team who have become family to me. I first started MUN'ing when I was at 10th grade back in 2012. Ever since, I have found that Model United Nations is much more than it seems at first sight. There is so much that one can benefit from MUN conferences. But nowadays many conferences are being held and not all are of decent quality. This is why I have worked very hard alongside my valuable friend and Deputy Secretary General Zen Hassan to overcome the prospect of becoming a great conference. Academically, this conference will be very smooth and will consist of five unique committees with even more unique Under Secretary Generals. I'm hoping to see you there in your raveshing suits and pretty dresses delegates but before all of that, I am hoping even more to see you with the determination of a true politican. Take care!

Special Political and Decolonization Committee

The United Nations Fourth Committee of the UN General Assembly Political and Decolonization Committee) is one of six committees of theUnited Nations (consisting of all UN members). After the dismantling of the trusteeship system resulting from independence being granted to all the trust territories, and the now-limited number of non-self-governing territories, that jurisdiction is insufficient to keep the committee occupied. Consequently, it was merged with the Special Political Committee (which had been created as a seventh committee of the whole to deal with certain political issues after the General Assembly found that the First Committee (Disarmament and Political) was too busy). The Fourth Committee deals with decolonization, Palestinian refugees and human rights, peacekeeping, mine action, outer space, public information, atomic radiation and the University for Peace.
